Neil Gaiman Addresses the University of the Arts Class of 2012 (by The University of the Arts (Phl))
Practice makes perfect. There’s plenty of opportunity to learn the craft writing while waiting to get published as Yuvi Zalkow points out in this video.
Writing must be the only profession in which people think they’re first effort is good enough to win awards. I mean seriously, if you took up jogging, you wouldn’t expect to win an Olympic medal in 400m running based on your first attempt at jogging around your neighbourhood would you? Anyway, rant over.

Gorgeous thunderstorm here. Little bit of hail, some rain against the window, a couple of flashes of lightning. Nothing major but enjoyable none the less. I’m sitting drinking tea listening to it all and feeling sorry for the poor sod who just dashed past the window clutching an umbrella. To celebrate, I think this calls for some Tom Waits.

Since I’ve been watching the series Sherlock it’s got me thinking about Arthur Conan Doyle again. I knew he’d lived in Surrey at one point and it got me searching online. I didn’t realise that the house he lived in for over 10 years is at risk of being redeveloped into flats. The Undershaw Preservation wants to restore the house back to its former glory and turn it into an Arthur Conan Doyle/Sherlock Holmes museum.

Okay, this has some dirty/mildly pornographic language, so if it’s not your thing, I quite understand. However, I have to post because it cracks me up every time. I mean how often do you get to hear Bea Arthur reading from a smutty book?

Just because everyone needs to smell like a monster sometimes, a little light relief from everyday stuff.
